Testing will take place at ACR Service HVAC Training: 3007 10th Ave, Ste B-C. Testing will be proctored by the instructor and tests will be mailed directly to the State of Alabama Board of Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration for scoring. The test is $85 and it includes a study guide for personal use. You must make an appointment to take your test. Appointments can be made at 256-288-3346. If you fail a test, you can re-test for $85.00
Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires that all persons who purchase, maintain, service, repair, or dispose of appliances that contain regulated refrigerants, be certified in proper refrigerant handling techniques as of November 14, 1994.
There are four categories of technician certification:
Type I: Persons who maintain service or repair small appliances must be certified as Type I technicians.
Type II: Persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of high or very high pressure appliances, except small appliances and motor vehicle air conditioning systems must be certified as Type II technicians.
Type III: Persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of low-pressure appliances must be certified as Type III technicians.
Universal: Persons who maintain, service or repair both low and high-pressure equipment, as well as small appliances must be certified as Universal technicians.
